Valor MortisWIKI & GUIDES

Valor Mortis Builds: Saber Starter and Rapier Progression

At a glance

Start with Saber, an unlocked firearm and Fire. Build Endurance and Blocking first, then switch toward Parrying Impact if you adopt the Chapter 3 Rapier. Equip Amber combinations only after collecting both pieces.

Level 21 Saber build

Use Saber + a firearm you have unlocked + Fire. This level 21 template uses 20 skill investments:

Skill Investments
Maximum Health 4
Maximum Endurance 4
Blocking 4
Melee Damage 4
Airborne Aiming 1
Headshot Damage 2
Ferrofluid Flask Refill 1

Build toward the template in the order that fixes your current difficulty. If you keep running out of Endurance, prioritize that before adding damage. Use the firearm you have now; the Pistol unlocks in Chapter 2, the Blunderbuss in Chapter 3 and the Musket in Chapter 5.

Adapt the build for Rapier

After collecting the Rapier in Chapter 3, try its defense before switching your investment. It rewards parrying and weak-point thrusts, but does not provide the Saber’s block.

Move the emphasis toward Parrying Impact. In the template above, the Headshot Damage investments are candidates to replace with Parrying Impact. Keep Health, Endurance and melee damage as the foundation rather than trying to fund both defensive styles immediately.

Amber combinations and where to get them

For exploration, work toward Tomorrow’s Promise + Lucky Shot. For bosses, try Dominatus + Volatile End once you have both.

Amber Where to collect it
Dominatus Chapter 2, Military Camp: the tent in the corner
Volatile End Chapter 3, Fields: beyond the barn with explosive corpses
Tomorrow’s Promise Chapter 3: finish Lullaby in Fallen Village
Lucky Shot Chapter 4, Caverns: the side tunnel near Last Sunlight, in the chest beside the Grenadier

The exploration pair cannot be completed before you reach Lucky Shot in Chapter 4. Keep your current Amber equipped until the pieces you want are available.

Continue into the late game

Keep developing your melee-and-firearm combination. Add further Health and Endurance, Parrying Impact if you actively parry, ammunition skills and physical resistance according to the problems you face.

Save final-tier materials for equipment you intend to keep. In particular, reserve a Quintessential Transmutation Material if you want to take Shield to level 5 for its associated trophy. A skill reset at a Lantern and a weapon upgrade are separate decisions.
